Shortly after the completion of the mural depicting the history of the City of Bridgeport, Riley was approached by St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport to paint the life of its patron saint. A deeply religious man, Riley could not refuse. He elected to superimpose 80 years of the life of St. Vincent on a 54x48 inch canvas. The challenge of his lifetime, what with his cancer spreading and every effort painful, he raced against his deadline with God to finish this work.
The uncompleted work was unveiled after his death, on the 350th anniversary of the founding of the St. Vincent’s order.
